How To Frost Cupcakes Like A Pro For The Holidays!

“ How To Frost Cupcakes Like A Pro” is full for instruction and tips for DIY basic “store bought” style cupcakes. If you are looking for special designs and fancy icing techniques, this post does not include that.

Basic Instructions

1.Prepare Icing bag.

2.Add coupler & icing tip , screw together according to directions on package.

3.Add icing to prepared bag

4.Remove excess air from bag, AKA

5. “burp bag”

6.Frost your cupcakes …

Pipe icing on the outer edge of the top of cupcake, continuously squeeze icing slowly while rotating around the cupcake in a circular motion, working your way from the outside to the center while overlapping just enough to build height in the middle.

7. Add cupcake toppers (optional) and that’s it!

For MORE detailed instructions, photos, & tips for success, on how to frost cupcakes like a pro, keep reading !

Detailed Instructions

1. Prepare Icing bag. Place coupler into icing bag, add tip and screw together according to directions on package. You can use a gallon zip lock bag in place of icing bag.

*If using a gallon zip lock bag, cut one corner of the bag with scissors just large enough to fit plastic coupler snugly into hole. Continue on as with pastry bag.

2. Add icing to prepared bag. I recommend using a rubber spatula or butter knife for this part. Drape bag over your hand to prevent getting icing on the edges and outside of your bag. Fill bag about 3/4 full.

how to hold icing bad while filling

3. Remove excess air from top of bag ,AKA “burp your bag”. To do this, simply squeeze out as much air as possible from top of bag before closing off with a twist. Holding bag close at the twist, use your second hand to help support & squeeze out several inches of icing to remove any air bubbles trapped at the tip. Keep squeezing until your icing comes out smoothly with no air pockets. Now you are ready to frost those cupcakes!

4. To frost your cupcake Continue holding your icing bag closed at the twist, begin frosting your first cupcake by piping icing on the outer edge of the cupcake, continuously squeeze icing slowly while rotating around the outer edge of the cupcake in a circular motion working your way to the center. You will want to overlap icing just enough to build height all the way in to the center.

How To Add “Theme” To My Basic Frosted Cupcakes?

Frosting cupcakes like a pro is more then just adding icing!

Add Color

I like to start out with choosing matching or contrasting icing color & cupcake liners to match my specific theme or holiday.

If you want to color your own icing simply mix in a few drops or dabs of gel icing color. Start out slow and keep adding until you reach your desired color.

Use gel colors found in cake decorating section to prevent possible texture change and to achieve rich colors . I have used liquid food coloring in canned icing but make note that you do take a chance with the texture and darker colors will be hard to achieve.

Adding The Perfect Topper

Cupcake toppers come in endless options. Buy them, make them, repurposed them, but however you do it, a cute cupcake topper will add HUGE personality to your cupcake.

Here are a few of my favorite types of toppers.

1.Sprinkles

Sprinkles are cheap and have came a long way since my child hood days!

2.Fondant Figures

Like to play with play-dough ? Here’s your excuse lol. But really, fondant may require a little bit of Google research but the toppers you can make are so worth it! Check out my sons first birthday cupcakes I made on my first fondant adventure!

I made these little monkeys, with googles help, the very first time using fondant!

3.Chocolate figures

Pipe melted almond bark onto wax paper by cutting a tiny peep hole in a zip lock bag. Now you’ve got yourself a dainty little topper! I had so much fun making these!

I piped these little fall leaf toppers out of almond bark using a Ziploc bag with the end barley snipped.

Pipe them on wax paper and let them dry!

4.Candies

Who doesn’t love picking candies off of cupcakes?

5.Little toys or figurines

Make sure they are big enough to not be mistaken as edible! This is a great option for children’s birthday parties! Think Hot Wheels, Barbie accessories, etc.

6. Traditional cupcake toppers

You can purchase these from many stores with the sprinkles etc. They are so cute and easy to use. You can also make your own Thanksgiving ones by printing my FREE printable HERE! All you need is a printer, a sheet of laminate ,scissors, and a few minutes.

  • Print the sheet below.
  • Laminate front and back of paper with self laminate (link below)
  • Cut out pictures just outside of photo, leaving a laminate clear edge for best sealing. Don’t kill yourself over the details when cutting.
  • Stick laminated toppers directly into cupcakes!

Tips For Success

*Try using the large star tip for a real professional “store bought” look verses the small star. This does use more icing but it looks amazing and makes frosting cupcakes a much quicker process.

*Try using Wilton’s decorating icing recipes for good, stable, icing that won’t slip. Keep reading for my personal favorite.

*Making icing can also save you a lot of money, if you don’t need the large amount the recipe makes, try freezing half of it in freezer bags. According to Wilton, their Icing freezes up to 6 weeks (I’ve found it to taste great for 6 months, though lol 😜).

*Don’t want to make icing?

Blend powdered sugar into canned icing to thicken it for better piping or you can purchase decorating icing by the tub at most local Walmart’s now.

*Hate icing clean up?

*The gallon size disposable zip lock bag is the piping bag for you!

*Don’t icing all the way to the edge, begin about 1/4 inch in leaving a little cup cake showing on the edges. This leaves room for icing to settle without slipping over the edges. It also allows people to see what flavor cake they are choosing & it just looks neat and professional.

*Stay away from white or pastel cupcake liners, their color seems to disappear after baking. Dark colors or foil liners look best.

*Bake your cupcakes ahead of time. Make sure they are completely cool before frosting. I prefer to cook mine the day before, cool, and cover, until ready to icing.

*Another option (my favorite) is to make them up to 3 months ahead, cool, and place carefully into gallon zip lock bags then freeze. Thaw at room temperature for a hr or two before frosting and about 3 hours before serving.

*Be sure to remove cupcakes from cupcake pan before frosting. I like to arrange mine on a platter or plate before decorating for easy maneuvering.

What cupcake recipe do I use?

I personally like to use generic box cake mix. It’s quick & easy, leaving me time to focus on the decorating.

There are a few ways to spruce up box mixes, here are a few to try!

  • You can exchange the water in the recipe for milk , soda, or extra oil
  • Exchange the oil listed for any other fat you enjoy cooking with such as melted/ cooled unsalted butter or coconut oil.
  • Some people say to add a dab of sour cream to cake mixes
  • I love to add chocolate chips to chocolate cake

What icing do I recommend For Frosting Cupcakes Like A Pro?

My favorite cupcake icing is Walmart bakery’s which they often sell by the tub. However, this can get a bit pricey so I often make my own from this Wilton recipe shown below. If you need a lot of icing, this can really save you some money!

A third alternative for quick jobs is small canned icing off the shelf. You will need to “stiffen” it by adding powdered sugar to get a good stiff frosting.

Easy Vanilla Buttercream Icing,By Wilton (original post linked below)

You will need

-1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening*

-1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

-4 cups sifted powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)

-2 tablespoons milk or water

(I usually use more)

-1 teaspoon vanilla extract

(pure or imitation)

-food coloring or icing color (optional)

Directions

1. Mix butter and shortening on medium speed until light and fluffy.

2. Beat in the vanilla extract

3. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time with mixer on lowest speed. Once sugar is somewhat incorporated, turn speed up to medium. Continue this process while scraping sides until all sugar is added. Frosting will be dry and stiff. (If icing becomes too stiff for your mixer, you can add a Tablespoon of milk, otherwise wait until the next step to add milk)

4. Gradually add 1 Tablespoon of of milk at a time until the desired consistency is reached while still mixing on medium speed. Icing should be light and fluffy but still stiff enough to hold very firm form.

5. Make sure all the ingredients are incorporated by scraping sides of the bowl once again.

6. Once you have the desired icing consistency & taste add desired food coloring in small amounts until you reach the color you want . (Use gel colors found in cake decorating section to prevent possible texture change and to achieve rich colors)

Frosting should be stored in an airtight container and can be frozen for up to 6 weeks.

Wiltons Troubleshooting Suggestions

• Air bubbles: To avoid creating air bubbles, make sure to use the paddle attachment instead of the whisk attachment on your electric stand mixer.

• Too stiff or too thin: If your frosting is too thin, add small amounts of powdered sugar until you reach the desired consistency. If too thick, add small amounts of liquid until the desired consistency is reached.

• Grainy consistency: Make sure your ingredients are all room temperature to avoid a grainy or gritty consistency.

• To preserve while in use: Depending on the weather and humidity, your buttercream may start to crust over. To avoid this, cover your frosting bowl with plastic wrap.

Don’t Disregard The Display !

Now that you know how to frost cupcakes like a pro, don’t forget to plan a cute way to display your cupcakes. Here are a few tips!

  • Dollar stores have many cute food platters that work great.
  • You could purchase or make your own cupcake stand out of household items.
  • cover a piece of cardboard or ugly platter with foil. For a quick silver “platter”
  • Google cupcake display ideas
  • Set cupcakes directly on table in a pretty shape. A Heart, related number, or even Christmas tree would be cute!
  • Set cupcakes directly on table and tuck some decor around them you won’t even be able to tell there is no platter present.
  • Don’t forget to use your imagination! The options are endless when you are the creator. ❤️

Best Things To Freeze

In today’s post, I am going to give you a list of my 20 favorite “best” things to freeze (great for beginners)!

Why Should I Freeze Food?

Freezing food is one of the BEST ways ever to save time in the kitchen!

If you are trying to cut down on eating out or save time in your schedule, you NEED TO try freezing!

Cooking double meals , preparing

pre-made frozen breakfast or snacks, and freezing cooked meat not only saves you a ton of time, it can also save you money . Seriously, purchasing sale items to freeze & use later and eating out less can SAVE YOU BOOKOOS!

If popping a frozen casserole in the oven or never having to cook fresh meat before preparing dinner doesn’t sound wonderful then I don’t know what does!

I recommend utilizing your instant pot for preparing bulk meats quickly and efficiently to freeze but a crock pot or stove works too!

Click here to watch how I cook & freeze my fresh chicken for 4 meals, all at once!

Things You Can Freeze By Category

Before I give you a list of my favorite things to freeze, I want you to recognize the different types of foods possible to freeze. I have broke these down into 6 categories for better clarity.

1.Pre Frozen

Items such as a whole turkey or store bought burritos that you purchase and store frozen. Pre frozen foods can be cooked , prepared, or raw by the manufacturer .

2.Pre Cooked

(Pre cooked by you!) such as cooked ground beef, shredded chicken, and leftovers.

3.Prepared

Casseroles, DIY buritos, and soups are all examples of ready to eat/ prepared frozen foods

4.Prepackaged

Prepackaged items that do not fit in the pre frozen category go here.

Examples would be, shredded cheese, hot dogs, sticks of butter etc.

5.Fresh

Fresh chicken, beef, pork chops, and all other fresh meats are in the “fresh” category.

6.Liquids

Milk, broth, pop, soup gravy, Etc.

20 Easy (Beginner) Items To Freeze

Now on to that list…

Shredded chicken

Diced or sliced ham

Ground burger

Raw meat

Whole chicken breast

Shredded cheese

Veggies

Most soups

Baked beans

Soup beans

Cookies

Cake

Icing

Broths

Unopened hot dogs

Unopened lunch meat

Hot dog sauce

Gravy

Butter

Sauces (pasta, marinara, Alfredo, etc)

Caution Or (Carefully freeze)

Bread

Double bag to help prevent freezer burn.

If bread seems a little hard, microwave to

soften before eating .

Potatoes

Cover with other ingredients to prevent

turning black . Under cook a tad to

prevent mushiness

Rice

Add a little water before reheating in

microwave or on stovetop. This makes

the rice soft and moist again.

Block cheese

Block cheese taste great but often

crumbles a little more then usual when

you go to slice it. This does not effect

shredding or melting, just something to

keep in mind.

Opened lunch meat

You may want to double bag in freezer bags and make sure all air is out to prevent freezer burn. Also note, when thawed, meat will have some water from ice on it, this does not effect the taste.

Liquids

Many liquids freeze amazing!

Be sure to leave space for expanding.

If you are storing in freezer bags, you may want to double bag or use double lock zippers to help prevent leakage.

I also like to lay my unfrozen freezer bags flat in a pan to freeze. Once frozen I remove from pan and stack in my freezer. This makes sure my freezer bags freeze smooth and flat allowing for easy stacking and saved space. If a bag happens to leak it is so much easier to clean out a pan than the freezer!

Noodles

Undercook noodles a tad helps them not turn too mushy.

Noodles also seem to freeze better when they are not in liquids like soups, try freezing them in casseroles instead.

Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese seems to freeze ok as long as you don’t mind the texture broke down a little. I, personally, don’t seem to notice much when in lasagna.

Other Tips For Success

•Add your crackers right before you cook a frozen casserole to ensure a crispy topping.

•Date & label everything with a permanent sharpie before you freeze.

•Use up older stuff first to prevent freezer burn /waste.

•Use freezer zip lock bags (not sandwich or storage bags) to prevent freezer burn & leakage.

•Cut one serving from a reheated frozen casserole then drain excess liquid (water) off of casseroles before serving.

•Forget to thaw a casserole? Baking an extra hour usually does the trick. Be sure to leave covered until at least thawed in oven.

•Cool cooked foods before freezing to prevent spoilage.

•Thaw liquids, soups, and bagged items in a bowl, that way, If they leak you can still used the item and the mess is contained.

•Use thicker, name brand aluminum foil over your freezer casseroles or double cheaper foil to prevent freezer burn.

You will also want to make sure the edges of the foil are tightly crimped around the aluminum pan.

•Check dollar tree for great aluminum pan deals depending on which sizes you are using.

•Timid about freezing a new item?

Freezing a small “leftover” portion the next time you make it can be a easy trial run. If you are pleased with the thawed results, then freeze full portions next time .

GIFT IDEA

Did you know, you can utilize freezing this Christmas?

Click here to read how I gifted my mother in law 2weeks of freezer meals for Christmas last year. She literally cried! She was so touched by the consideration of her busy schedule and the time I had taken to prepare each meal.

What’s amazing is, I was able to make each meal out of my regular grocery budget. I would make a double dinner, we would eat one and I would freeze one. So, the time it took was incorporated into my daily life and nearly unnoticed.

This same concept is used for stocking your own freezer with prepared meals in a time saving way.

*Freezer meals are also great gifts for new moms, elderly, family’s in the moving process, and those fighting sickness or bad health.

How To Declutter & Lower You’re Grocery Budget

What? That’s right! Today I’m going to show you how to declutter & lower your grocery budget . At least once a year for the past 2-3 years, I have began this practice of “decluttering my budget”.

My first experiment with this process was a few years back when we found ourselves getting a little lax with our finances. During the mission to “reclaim” our budget, I found that some of my purchasing habits were no longer budget worthy. That’s when I decided it was time to DECLUTTER!

What exactly does declutter mean?

Declutter : “To remove unnecessary items from“

That sums it up about right! It’s so easy to let unnecessary purchases slip into our everyday and every week spending. That doesn’t mean that you have to necessarily give up all these items. But oftentimes, there are cheaper options that have nothing to do with loss of quality. And .. yes, sometimes we do need to give up things!

Why Should I Declutter My Grocery Budget?

Taking time to “declutter” your grocery budget helps put your spending back into prospective and can help fix an over spending issue.

This is also a great way to transfer from “no budget” into a “new budget” Or from a bigger budget into a smaller one.

How To Do It

1. First, I began checking

my every week spending.

I am looking for items that I could possibly save on, substitute, or omit completely from my grocery list.

You want to look for

#1 very expensive items

#2 anything you use a lot of

2.Begin a list of these items.

Don’t worry about figures yet, just start the list.

As you go about your day and notice qualifying items you use, add them to the list. Check your online grocery app for frequent purchases or add items as you add them to your physical grocery list.

3.After you get a few items on the list, you can sit down and begin your “Decluttering” process.

To declutter, you will need to do some figuring.

You will need…

note pad

-pencil

-calculator

-google

Choose one item form your list. You want to begin by asking yourself these 5 questions.

1.Is this product something I need or really want to keep purchasing?

2.If yes, could I make or purchase this item for cheaper? If no, mark off of list.

3.How much do I currently spend on this item,on an average, annually?

*Figuring by the year is very important!

This shows you exactly how much your small expense add up in comparison to your usage. It can be surprising, at times , what seems so little can add up to when used regularly!

4.How much less could I make or purchase item for per year?

5.How much would I annually save and

is it worth the exchange?

If it’s not worth it, mark from list and continue to next item.

*Here are the details of two items of which I walked Through these 5x steps.

Notice that by just changing the brand of washer cleaner I use to a equal quality product, I was able to save $71.76 per year! That’s an entire week of groceries for my family!

Imagine what your saving total could be after decluttering an entire grocery list!

This was not even my biggest single item savings this year . My biggest savings declutter had to be from our OLLY multivitamins. I simply swapped which store I would purchase these from and discovered that I could save approximately $87.36 per year ! Just on vitamins.

How Long Will This Take Me?

This process can be a little time consuming but don’t feel like you have to do it all at once. I like to start with a few items then as I think of more products to add to my list I’ll continue the process, breaking it up in 2-3 small sessions.

I don’t recommend waiting too long in between, for fear of forgetting exactly where you’re at in the process.

No matter how you do it, all at once, or over a couple weeks, be sure you stay at it until you are complete.

Why Should I Do This Every Year?

I do this declutter at least once year for the same reason I declutter my home over and over.

Time has a way to build up “clutter”.

Life happens, we add purchases we didn’t need last year without considering the most frugal options. Sometimes, prices fluctuate or new items are available changing the “best buy” and other times life gets busy or we get slack adding things we just don’t need!

All this said, I, personally have found that decluttering my grocery budget once a year is definitely NOT overdoing it!

If anything, it isn’t enough.

Tips For Success

• Don’t forget to keep ALL the notes of your savings and tally them up at the end!

This is where you will see the big results of you’re labor, and just think, next time you shop, you will see even bigger results!

You can also use the details for the savings notes for future checks on savings when new purchasing opportunities arise.

•When considering ordering items as grocery replacements, do not forget to include shipping cost, if there is any.

•Never assume a “bulk” bye is cheaper. It often is but sometimes it is NOT.

•Realize that sometimes convenience is worth the money, as long as it’s within your budget and is really beneficial to your families life.

In Conclusion

Decluttering our grocery budget has really helped me “stay in budget.” I hope it helps you in this way too!

Please let me know in the comments below, if you try this or what you currently do to stay in you’re budget.

If you have any questions about this process or the post please leave in comments below and I will respond ASAP.

Also, if you would be interested in a printable to help you preform the grocery budget decluttering process, I would be happy to look into the possibility of creating one.

I hope you have enjoyed this post! If so,

Overwhelmed By Cooking? This May Be Your Answer!

If you prepare, pack, cook, and cleanup 3 meals a day, 7 days a week at a average of 1 hr commitment per meal.

That’s 3hrs a day and 21 hrs per week that you spend preparing, cooking, and cleaning up food!

Nearly a entire day of your week revolves around your daily meals! I didn’t even include weekly meal planning and grocery shopping or eating!

The point is, meal time is a big part of our daily housekeeping routine and responsibilities as wives. This is why I believe in finding simple but amazing recipes that can simplify your cooking process without sacrificing quality.

Pro 31:18 (KJV)

14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard

18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good:

Learning to cook simple is not about cutting quality and should never involve doing less then your best. It’s actually the exact opposite. We should strive in every way to do our best in all things, especially in the calling God has laid upon us as housekeepers.

Simple cooking should be an opportunity to put your talents to full use.

I learned, several years ago as a newly wed wife that over committing yourself on an already full day can result in

short cuts, burnt biscuits, and a late dinner followed by guilt and feelings of failure.

Don’t get me wrong, elaborate meals have their time and place, but when out of place, can often become overwhelming, especially when lacking proper preparation.

The benefits of a simple recipe

Simple ingredients =simple preparation

Simple preparation = simple cooking

Simple cooking = simple clean up

Simple clean up = a simple evening ????

Choosing a simple recipe(’s)can

simplify the entire cooking process.

Simplifying the entire process can save you time from beginning to finish, allowing you to multi task and accomplish more, with little to no stress.

If you do not have a book, box, or phone full of simple recipes to frequently turn to, then I suggest you begin rethinking your recipe book and weekly menu!

What about my current recipes?

No, I am not suggesting that you ditch all of those amazing recipes! Just that you try incorporating several simple recipes throughout the week within your meal plan. Particularly on those super hectic days. This will make your week go smoother and the elaborate “complicated” meals will become more special and enjoyable to prepare.

???? Idea-

Instead of cooking an elaborate meal all at once, try mix matching “simple” recipes with “complicated” recipes. This can really free up some time and cleanup. You will still get the fancy food you love with a little more wiggle room for your day.

What is a simple recipe?

A simple recipe can be defined in many ways. My personal assessment of a “simple recipe” is when ….

*the recipe contains no more then about 8 ingredients.

*I have most of the ingredients on hand regularly or currently need to purchase none or few of the ingredients listed.

*The recipe consist of only a few steps before ready to cook, saving time and dirtying less dishes for cleanup

What if I’m just learning to cook ?

If this is you, simple recipes are a great place to start!

Trying out simple recipes will teach you the basics of cooking , give you plenty of practice, and allow you to experience plenty of success on the journey.

Where can I find simple recipes?

*First of all, right here I will continue to share my favorite simple recipes!

Check bottom of post for links to past recipe I have shared. If you have not subscribed, be sure to do so at bottom of post!❤️

*”All Recipes” app is my favorite recipe app.

All Recipes provides more then just simple recipes. So be sure to scan the ingredient list first, for signs of simplicity.

Remember, you are checking for a small supply list and several familiar ingredients.

This keeps the shopping and preparing easier and also helps with your budget!

*Google is a great way to find specific recipes.

Search for things like “simple cheesecake recipe” or “easy cheesecake” by typing it in your google search engine.

Online contains a vast source of recipes; it’s just a matter of finding them.

If cooking has you overwhelmed lately, maybe it’s time to rethink your recipe box

7x Dinner Tips

Try one tip per night this week to simplify your dinner preparation!

1. USE Your INSTANT POT!

If you have a instant pot, (or a smart electric pressure cooker of any type) don’t leave it in the cabinet! Get that baby out and start using it . For two whole years, my electric pressure cooker collected dust. I thought I needed to find the best “instant pot” recipes before I began putting it to use. I was even somewhat intimidated by this contraption because I couldn’t peek in while ‘mid’ cooking.

That’s when one of my dear friends filled me in on all I had been missing out on. She encouraged me to start out with cooking meat in my pressure cooker and forget the meals until I became more confident in the cookers features. I have hardly cooked my meat any other way since! It’s amazing, I can cook a large pack of chicken all at once, (it’s so tender and moist!) And my burger grinds up much easier, without all the grease splatter!

So, if I have one word for you, fear the instant pot no longer! Grab that meat you’ve put off cooking. Check your instant pot settings, manual (or google) to determine the time for your meat. Then go get something else accomplished while it does the work for you! Because that’s what this is about anyway, making dinner prep simpler ????

2. MIX THAT CHICKEN! Did I say mix chicken? Yes!

If you haven’t heard, the rave of the internet is this little trick of using a HAND or STAND MIXER to shred your cooked chicken. This surprisingly works amazingly! And It’s as easy as it sounds! Trim and cook your chicken (preferably in the instant pot) ????

  1. Place 2-3 chicken breast in a large mixing bowl without broth.
  2. 2. Mix on slow-medium speed (Make sure not to mix too much or your chicken will be more like powdered

    parcels instead of shredded pieces)

This little trick saves so much time, I know longer need to wait for my chicken to cool before shredding or have burnt finger tips from not waiting. And the shredding process itself is so much quicker. I actually look forward to cooking with shredded chicken now!

3. COOK EXTRA.

This sounds so simple but it’s such a time saver in so many ways with dinner prep! Cooking extra of anything can be a plus. The options here are endless, but if you need some ideas on how to use the extras you’ve cooked up, then keep reading!

4. USE IT

if you love leftovers, consider making double once or twice a week and plan for a couple ‘leftover’ nights. If you’re not big on “traditional left overs” then try turning your leftovers into new meals, add them to a casserole or heat them up as a easy throughout the week. (No one will ever know)! Don’t want to eat anything twice this week? There’s still a solutionfor you! (next tip ????)

5. FREEZE IT

So, you have cooked a bunch of extra meat, or even a entire extra meal, you won’t be able to use them in the near future, now what?Freeze it! This seriously saves so much time!Imagine being able to pull out a frozen pot of soup in a gallon freezer bag.

Thaw, heat, and eat!

Can’t get much easier then that!Or my favorite.. only cooking raw meat once or twice a wk! (If that!) The trick to this? Cook your meat in bulk (I usually do this once a week, rotating types I purchase) . Keep out what you need, then freeze the rest in one meal portions. Once you have a small stockpile built up, you can thaw & heat the meat of your choice, this saves loads of time!I learned this trick from JORDAN PAGE. Look up her you tube channel or blog for lots of great tips for cooking & FREEZING food, while budgeting for a big family! She’s great, Thanks Jordan!

6. DON’T WAIST TIME ON TADER’S!

First of all if your don‘t know what a “tader” is, it is Kentucky talk For potato! I’ve been a big fan of the traditional hand potato peeler for a long time . (I love the Rada brand) that is, until I discovered a amazon treasure! The electric potato peeler! When I cook any homemade dinner, I usually want some good, homemade mashed potatoes to go with it. But I really hate peeling potatoes! Now with my electric potato peeler, I don’t dread the job! Anytime I need potatos peeled for a recipe I let my electric peeler do the work. While it’s peeling, I chop them up (if chopping is needed). And Wa-La! The job is cut in half. Considering how much I like this appliance, personally I feel like the price is very reasonable. I have had my rotator for over a year with know issues. It’s very easy to wipe off. And is compact! Bow what about those nights you are really hurting for time, but you still want something besides instant potatoes. On nights like this, you might consider the Bob Evans pre made REAL mashed potatoes. They have several flavors. And are sold at many wallmart’s and Kroger’s. Yes, you will be paying for convenience, and I don’t recommend it on a regular basis. But if it’s in your budget and you have a week that you need the convenience, then go for it! (You can also check out your stores generic version of these pre made potatoes). One thing I like about these, they are SO QUICK to heat up, they usually have a couple weeks before expiration date, and they taste JUST LIKE homemade mashed potatoes! 7. MEAL PLAN

This tip may be obvious and many of us take it as a given. But really, meal planning will save you more time then anything with meal preparation.Plan your weekly meals before you shop so you are not scrambling for your ingredients. As you begin your day, check or decide which meal you want to make early on. This gives you time to thaw out any frozen items and gives you the chance to begin any additional prepping throughout the day, instead of all at once, or at the last minute.
