All credit for these little “bunny tales” goes to my amazingly creative Mother. (Thanks,Mom, for allowing me to share!)

Several years ago, my Mother stepped up our annual Easter bake sale a notch by adding a ton of creative, Easter themed, goodies. These individually wrapped, bunny tails were a huge hit, not only with the customers but with us sellers too!

In past post I have mention that a simple recipe, in my definition, is a recipe that consist of approximately 5 ingredients or less . With that said, this ‘2 ingredient’ Easter party favor definitely qualifies for the SIMPLE list!

Did I say TWO ingredient? Yes! Now some may argue that this is not a real recipe, considering it uses a premade bakery item. Either way, you can’t buy these from the store and that’s enough to make it a recipe in my book..

Bunny Tale Easter Party Favors 🐰

You will need

•One (or more) bag or container of –sour cream glazed donut holes

My mom likes to use Kroger’s , I did use Walmart brand this time, but whatever brand you use, make sure they are the sour cream kind and that they are fresh.

• One pack of white almond bark

• Microwavable bowl (glass is ideal) a rubber spatula , wax paper, and a microwave of course. 😜

That’s it!

How to make Easter party favor

I recommend melting no more then 4 squares of almond bark at a time. You will want to begin in 30 second increments, stirring with your rubber spatula in between. As the almond bark begins to melt, you can reduce to 15 second increments to prevent burning. Burnt almond bark will not work for dipping!

Once your almond bark is melted to a runny consistency, with no chunks, you are ready to dip the sour cream donut holes into it!

Dipping the donuts

There are many ways to successfully dip items into melted almond bark but my personal favorite is to quickly pour the bowl of almond bark into a measuring cup to give more depth for dipping. Then I insert a fork or tooth pick as a “pick” into 1 donut hole and dunk until covered.

Allow excess almond bark drip off then use a second tooth pic, fork, or fingers 😂, to loosen the donut hole from the “pick” onto a sheet of wax paper to set.

Depending on how many donuts you are dunking, you may notice the almond bark begin to thicken a little, resulting in heavily coated donuts. This taste great but the almond bark will NOT go far like this. For best results and quantity you will want to reheat tour thickened almond bark every little bit for about 10-15 seconds. This will keep that thin consistency and also saves you money on almond bark!

Tips for success

•Heat almond bark slowly to prevent scorching

•Dry all utensils and bowl completely before adding almond bark.

•Never add water to almond bark

•Save extra melted almond bark by pouring it into a mold lined with saran wrap (ice trays or small bowls work great). Once set, pop out if mold and store with your remaining almond bark squares in a airtight back or container.

•Use rubber spatula to remove excess almond bark and wash out while still warm.

•You can also reheat bowl for a few seconds or soak in got water to loose extra almond bark for cleaning if needed .

•If you melt your almond bark by stove, heat on extremely low heat and never stop stirring !

Substitution list

For wax paper

  • Plastic wrap wrapped around a plate or pan
  • silicone baking mat
  • aluminum foil

For sour cream donut holes

•Any type of donut holes.

•You could also use these tags with other items such as homemade white dipped peanut butter balls! I would love to hear in the comments what you would put with these tags.❤️

For almond bark

•White chocolate chips with baking wax added in (Follow package directions) The added wax makes the chocolate stick

•candy cote melts (I have not used these but I’ve heard of those that do)

For microwave

•You can melt almond bark on the stove top if you are very careful! Some people like to use the double boil method but I’ve had success by keeping my stove on its lowest setting and never stop stirring!

For rubber spatula

  • Any kitchen utensil that can mix the almond bark well and scrape it from the sides works! I just use the rubber spatula because it leaves very little behind while blending well. ❤️

Questions & Trouble Shooting your Easter party favors

Why is my melted almond bark tented brown ?

You have overcooked the almond bark and it is starting to burn.

Why is my almond bark not sticking to the donuts?

Make sure you actually purchased almond bark. Almond bark does not need cooking wax additives to help it stick, white chocolate does.

Why is my almond bark clumping?

Make sure no water or moisture got in the mixing bowl. This can happen when
your mixing bowl didn get dried good after wash and water clumps almond bark.

Also, if you have “almost” burnt the almond bark it will climb before turning brown

What to do if my almond bark is burn or clumpy?

Toss it out and start over! The benefits to melting a little at a time come in HERE

How long does it take for bunny tails to “set”?

No time at all! The first donuts will probably be set before you’re even done. The rest will be set in about 5-10 minutes.

How many Easter party favors will this make?

This depends on a lot of factors. Like how thin your almond bark is, where you purchase the donuts from. I personally had approximately 24 donut holes in the container I purchased from Walmart. Depending on thickness of almond bark, you can cover this entire pack of donuts with about 4-5 squares of Great Value almond bark. One pack of great value almond bark consist of 12 squares of bark. A entire pack of Great Value almond bark can cover about 3 packages of great value sour cream donut holes.

3 packs of donut holes = approximately 72 bunny tails! This is a total of 24 (3 count) individual bunny tail packs.
